A key advertising tool for any business is a business card. A very smart person once told me, you will only get work ½ the time if… He took a single sided business card, threw it down on the conference table and it landed blank side up, your business cards are printed single sided. For years upon years, designers created business cards with important business information and graphics on only one side. What changed the focus onto printing double sided and why haven’t they been doing that for years?
Double Sided vs Single Sided
The easy question to answer is “Why over the years have business cards not been printed double sided?” The printing industry has come a long way. There are so many forms of printing. Offset lithography, letterpress, thermography, silk-screening, flexography, gravure and last, but not least digital – The most common form of printing today. We can discuss the types of printing at a later date. Prior to the digital press, maintaining printing machines and inks were very expensive. 25 years ago, printed brochures and such items that you see today weren’t readily available for you to grab because of the high costs; which means printing double sided business cards was also very expensive. Printing double sides consists of running the sheet of paper through the printer an additional time and the use of more ink. The advancement in technology and the lower costs for printing digitally has really changed the industry. People are willing to spend the money to print business materials simply because of the lower cost to print digitally.
